Something New for the Fair

Help spread the news: We want a display of old farm trucks at the 2025 Elkhorn Valley Antique Power Show at the Sarpy County Fair, July 30th, to Sunday, August 3rd, 2025. If you have one, or know anyone who has an old truck, restored or in its work clothes, bring it to the show to display it. If you have to haul it to the show, we have a loading ramp.

Old trucks are a very important part of agricultural history. We had an International ¾ ton pickup. Using a few planks to make a platform we could haul 80 bales of hay to feed our cattle.

TOP 10 REASONS FARM TRUCKS AREN’T STOLEN

#10 They have about 20 miles before they overheat, break down or run out of fuel. #9 Only the owner knows how to operate the door to get in or out.

#8 It is difficult to drive fast with all the fencing tools, grease guns, ropes, chains, syringes, buckets, boots and loose papers in the cab.

#7    It takes too long to start, and smoke coming up through the rusted-out floor clouds your vision.

#6    The Border Collie in the back looks mean.

#5    They’re too easy to spot. The description might go something like this: The driver’s side door is red, the passenger side door is green, the right front fender is yellow, etc.

#4    The bales of hay in the back makes it hard to see if you’re being chased. You could use the mirrors if they weren’t cracked and covered with duct tape and cow manure.

#3 Top speed is approximately 45 mph.

#2 Who wants to steal a truck that needs a year’s worth of maintenance, u- joints, $3,000 in body work, tail-lights and windshield?

#1 It is hard to commit a crime with everyone waving at you.

And today, a new one, most drivers do not know how to drive a manual transmission.

Give a copy of this to anyone you know that has a truck that would look good at the EVAPA show.

Mike’s Tidbits

In April EVAPA has a bus trip scheduled to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island. Here are some of the details for the trip:

We depart from the north Parking lot at Cabelas in LaVista at 8am on Saturday April 12th.

We arrive in Grand Island at 10:30 am.

We depart Grand Island at 3:30 pm back to Cabelas at 6:00 pm Cost of the trip if $60 per person.

This cost is the bus, driver tip, and admission into the Museum. We need a minimum of 50 people to make this work and can take a total of 56 on the bus. Bus can accommodate walkers, but not scooters. It has 1 restroom in the rear.

A reasonable cost restaurant is located at the museum, and meals are not included.

At the March meeting I will have copies of the menus for you to make a selection to help the restaurant. March’s ’tidbit’ will contain information on the museum.

Reservations and payments will start at the Feb dinner.

Payment must be submitted by March 15th, checks payable to EVAPA

Payments can be mailed to:     Mike O’Brien
